(BOSTON, MA) October 2, 2012, The Giving Back: Kids Helping Kids exhibit is now open through November 25, 2012 at Boston Children’s Museum (BCM). This exhibit portrays a touching story about how families work together to help out their neighbors. A multi-media photo essay tells the story of Cradles to Crayons, a MA based organization that provides clothing, shoes, and books to children in need.
"A sense of community and the impulse to share with others isn’t something we’re born with - it’s something we all need to learn. What better place to learn than at Boston Children’s Museum? We hope this exhibit is a launch pad for family conversations and that everybody will end up understanding the importance of "giving back"," said Rachel Farkas, BCM Collections Manager.
This exhibit shares the important story that everyone, no matter what their age, has something to give and it is important for families to spend time together donating and volunteering. Cradles to Crayons collects new and like-new children's items through families, grassroots community drives and corporate donations. Donations to Cradles to Crayons are processed and packaged by volunteers, and are distributed to disadvantaged children across the state through a collaborative network of social service agencies and school partners.
Founder and CEO, Lynn Margherio says "Cradles to Crayons and Boston Children’s Museum have a partnership built on a shared mission of engaging children and families in discovery experiences. We hope that many families will visit the exhibit to follow the journey of an outgrown item from one child’s closet into the hands of another deserving child. You will learn about how many helping hands go into the production and distribution of a Cradles to Crayons package and feel the joy and impact that each makes."
The Giving Back: Kids Helping Kids exhibit will be open through November 25, 2012.
