Welcome to the Japanese House! Join Museum staff to step inside an authentic, 100-year old silk merchant’s home from Kyoto, Japan. In 1979, the City of Kyoto gave this house to the City of Boston. Since few of these houses remain even in Japan today, it’s a unique experience for all.
Take off your shoes and follow the Museum staff for a 15-minute tour. Find out how this house was reconstructed in Boston by Japanese carpenters. Learn about Japanese home life, customs and traditions, and art and architecture—and explore a part of Kyoto.
Note:
- Check signs at the Museum for Japanese House hours and activity listing.
