Boston Public Schools Countdown to Kindergarten Celebration

Bring the invitation you received in the mail from Boston Public Schools (BPS) and come celebrate!

Kindergarteners must wear their yellow “I’m going to Kindergarten” t-shirts. If your child still needs a t-shirt, visit a Boston Public Library branch before August 30th or pick up your child’s shirt at the Museum on the 26th.

Event details:

• Get last minute questions answered by BPS Departments

• Meet BPS Superintendent Mary Skipper and Kristin McSwain from the Mayor’s Office of Early Childhood

• Play in Museum exhibits

• Explore a real school bus

• Join a Dance Party!

• Receive a FREE backpack from Cradles to Crayons for all new Kindergarten students (after 6:30 PM)

• Receive a snack bag to take home (after 6:30 PM)

Getting to the Museum:

• Free BPS buses leave at 4:00pm, first come, first served from MBTA stations—look for volunteers wearing yellow t-shirts at each station:

  • Forest Hills (north entrance) – Arborway between South and Washington Streets

  • Ruggles – Forsythe St.

  • Mattapan Library – Blue Hill Ave.

  • Maverick – 12 Maverick Square

  • Ashmont – between 1937-1918 Dorchester Ave or eastern bank across from station

• Travel by public transportation.

• Get event free parking at Stillings Street Garage (first come, first served):

  • Go to Stillings Street Garage at 11 Stillings Street.

  • Take a ticket when entering Stillings Street Garage (this is Ticket #1).

  • At the Museum, get a free pass for your parking (this is Ticket #2).

  • When you exit the garage, you need BOTH Ticket #1 and Ticket #2. At the exit gate, put in Ticket #1 (the ticket you got at the garage). Then, put in Ticket #2 (the pass you got at the Museum).

  • Note: Stillings Street Garage is the ONLY lot with free event parking. Free parking is available between 2:00 PM-11:59 PM on August 25th only.
