Yokoso – welcome!

Visit Kyo-no-Machiya, an authentic two-story silk merchant’s home from Kyoto, Japan. Learn about Japanese family life, customs, ceremonies, art, architecture and seasonal events with this 100-year-old house.

Check out the special displays celebrating Hina-matsuri. Hina-matsuri (often interpreted as Doll Festival, Peach Festival, or Girls’ Day) is celebrated on March 3rd every year to honor womanhood, especially young girls.

Enjoy Victory Bouquets”, a display of artwork created by the students of Tohoku University of Art and Design.

*Please see the signs in the Museum for Japanese House hours and activity.

*To promote the preservation of this old house from Japan, the house may be available to view only from the outside on any given day. Please contact the Museum in advance or ask staff for more details.
