In celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, join us for this special screening of More Than a Meal — a specially created video project that showcases cuisines from the AAPI diaspora, and the families and stories that inspire them.
Filmed in neighborhoods across the Boston area, this video features six restaurant owners whose dishes reflect generations of memory, migration, and creativity. Visitors will be welcomed into the rarely seen kitchens where recipes come to life—where teams of cooks, chefs, and kitchen staff work side by side to bring flavors, stories, and traditions to the table with care and skill.
Through a first-person perspective, experience how cooking connects people across time and place, and how sharing a meal can be a powerful way to show love, keep memories alive, and build community.
Featured restaurants:
Ariana Restaurant
Japonaise Bakery
Momo Masala
Pho Viet’s
Silk Road Uyghur Cuisine
Yoma Boston

Juneteenth is a federal holiday that recognizes the 13th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. This amendment outlawed the practice of enslaving people in America. For 246 years, generations of African American families were viewed as property, to be owned by another human being. Enslaved African Americans were bought, sold, separated from loved ones, forced to work without wages, and suffered inhumane conditions.
Juneteenth honors the “freedom fighters” and generations who came before us, as much as it recognizes their persistence towards freedom and restitution.
Boston Children’s Museum celebrates Juneteenth with a variety of music, dance, and artmaking activities developed in collaboration with community organizations, independent artists, museum educators, and local creatives. Through these partnerships, the Museum highlights the ingenuity of African American artistic traditions born out of resistance. These practices continue to flourish and fuel modern day movements which advocate for the importance of speaking out against injustices of any kind.
At Boston Children’s Museum we affirm, value, and support all identities. We also understand that sometimes people have to be invited into a space to know that they belong there. That means we offer events and programs intentionally created to uplift specific communities, and all are welcome to join in the celebration.

Freedom began with a dream! This workshop celebrates the culmination of nearly 250 years of dreams that were spoken, shouted, sung, written, and illustrated, until people all over the country became allies in our collective fight for freedom. Join us in the Art Lab to draw YOUR dreams for a better future and share them with your community.
