Join us this July for three Juxtaposed Flows workshops! Juxtaposed Flows is a participatory dance series led by A Trike Called Funk, that brings together members from different dance communities for a unique combination of fun-filled dance learning and activities. For the first series on July 12th, visitors will learn steps from Dancehall with “Ms. 5678”, and Breakdance with “Vayu”, and will have an opportunity to showcase those steps through freestyle dance games.
A Trike Called Funk is a Boston-based creative venture co-founded in 2021 by MC & Dance Lead Aaron Myers and DJ Edward Galan. They orchestrate participatory dance experiences around their customized cargo tricycle, equipped with its own portable dance floor, power source, DJ equipment, and sound system. A Trike Called Funk not only performs and entertains, but also teaches and engages with the aim of unleashing creativity and building community everywhere they pedal & park.
Vayu Kieta’s Artist Statement:
“As a child I was always interested in science and wanted to understand the world around me. I’ve spent most of my youth learning astrology, biology, martial arts, oceanography, and computer/mechanical/electrical engineering. I loved the arts, but there was always a disconnect for me when it came to understanding the world, until I saw someone doing a head spin on the concrete with a helmet. When I realized dance was the science of expressing yourself with your body, I fell in love. Today I am a 20yr veteran Floorlords Crew member, an Executive Support Technician, Photographer/Videographer, and a Creative Engineer living the life I love.”
Chanel Ms.5678’s Artist Statement:
“My love for dance began as early as 8 years old, creating dance routines and
watching great artists like Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson perform at award
shows. My family and friends also heavily influenced me by dancing to the latest hip
hop and Caribbean music. My family is from Antigua, an island in the Caribbean known for Calypso and Soca music. Growing up, we attended many Caribbean events, specifically Carnival in New York and Boston, where they play Dancehall, Soca, Calypso, and Reggae
music. I always incorporate my Caribbean culture into my performances and classes.
It feels great to teach energetic dancehall and soca styles, as well as the differences
between Caribbean music through their tempos and movements. In my classes, I
love to have colorful visuals, including various flags representing the many
Caribbean islands and Latin cultures. I always wanted to see the world as a performer, incorporating dancehall! Since 2010, I have been able to do just that. As a dancer, I’ve helped to design and create dance choreography for video gaming for Microsoft and Harmonix Music Systems, called Dance Central, using the Xbox/Kinect and Oculus/VR consoles.Today, I teach dance in schools, lead Dancehall Soca Cardio workshops throughout
the New England area, and highlight professional dancers on my podcast called The
Dancers Report.”

Join us this July for three Juxtaposed Flows workshops! Juxtaposed Flows is a participatory dance series led by A Trike Called Funk, that brings together members from different dance communities for a unique combination of fun-filled dance learning and activities. For the second edition of our series on July 19th, visitors will learn steps from Bhangra with Kit Tempest, and Salsa with Rodney Lopez, they will have an opportunity to showcase those steps through freestyle dance games.
Kit Tempest Artist Statement:
“I am passionate about teaching this style because…Bhangra is a really fun, and energetic dance that makes me move!”
Rodney Eric Lopez Artist Statement
“Do you think your parents’ music is cool? I didn’t always. My father was a Salsa musician and Latin music was always on in the background of my house growing up. I preferred the pop music that was on the radio instead. It wasn’t until after graduating from college, when a friend invited me to go Salsa dancing, that I became fascinated with this music! Salsa opened doors to joyful movement, increased personal confidence, new friendships, and a deep affirmation of my Puerto Rican culture and heritage. Social dancing led to Salsa dance instruction, learning a number of dances from the Latin, Swing, and ballroom families, teaching artistry in schools, and eventually arts education leadership. I was even featured in the hit documentary film, Mad Hot Ballroom. For over 25 years, I’ve helped children and adults experience the joy and connection of social dance and I now bring this artform to organizations of all kinds as professional development.”

Program details
Join us this July for three Juxtaposed Flows workshops! Juxtaposed Flows is a participatory dance series led by A Trike Called Funk, that brings together members from different dance communities for a unique combination of fun-filled dance learning and activities. For this last edition of our series on July 26th, visitors will learn steps from Locking with Carl Alleyne, and Krumping with Tayquan Pomare-Taylor aka “LandMine”, and they will have an opportunity to showcase those steps through freestyle dance games.
Carl Alleyne Bio:
Carl Alleyne is a dedicated and passionate hip-hop dancer with over 36 years of experience in the entertainment industry. Hailing from Boston, Carl has devoted his time to performing, teaching, and choreographing in different parts of the country. His love for locking has been a driving force in his career, as he constantly strives to improve and explore techniques within the dance form. Carl’s commitment to locking has led him to share his knowledge and passion with others, inspiring and uplifting fellow dancers through his art. His vast experience in choreography and movement coaching for various film and music projects showcases his expertise and dedication to his craft. Carl brings personality, style, and knowledge to the table, making a significant impact on the entertainment industry.
Tayquan Pomare-Taylor aka “LandMine” Bio:

Music has existed in nature long before humans defined it through notes and terms – wind blowing through trees, crickets chirping at night, the crashing of ocean waves, a heartbeat – music is part of the cycle of natural life.
Indigenous practitioners of sound healing recognized the therapeutic value of music, and that sound frequencies can impact our body, mind and spirit.
Today, research studies prove that music can lower blood pressure, decrease pulse rate and assist the parasympathetic nervous system, which is responsible for digestion and other metabolic processes.
Boston Children’s Museum’s Sound Bath Series is intended to be an oasis from the stressors of daily life. It is a drop-in/drop-out, deeply immersive and full body listening experience, where visitors are “bathed” in the soundwaves of a musical instrument.
This summer, Sound Bath Series features Vibraphonist, Winnie Dahlgren.

Program details
