Description

Boston Children’s Museum seeks an energetic, fun, and flexible individual who values the importance of creating lasting memories for children and families through hands-on, interactive and engaging experiences.

The ideal candidate is comfortable interacting and initiating conversations with children, and their caregivers, is approachable with a positive attitude, and has the ability to adapt to changes based on Museum needs, the ability to work in a fast-paced environment as well as in quieter, and more focused interaction, takes pride in their work and has high standards for visitor experience, resourceful and able to anticipate needs or potential problems; uses creative out-of-the box thinking to problem solve and a team player.

The Visitor Experience Ambassador (VEA) reporting to the Visitor Experience Manager is responsible for maintaining a positive, welcoming and inclusive environment for all children and their caregivers to explore the power of play while engaging in hands-on experiences. Interacts with our diverse families to ensure a safe learning environment, create joyful experiences, and spark curiosity, imagination, and creativity.

The VEA is an important member of our Visitor Experience team and plays a key role in staffing museum exhibits and maintaining exhibit cleanliness, safety, and accessibility, while supporting educational programs and events. The VEA also support admissions, membership, and development campaign sales, but most importantly, promote the lifelong love of learning and fun.

Responsibilities
  • Play a key role in the visitors’ experience by providing exceptional customer service and promoting a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrate the power of play by engaging with children and families in hands-on experimenting, learning, and use of creative thinking to initiate fun and positive visitor interactions.
  • Builds trust and relationships with our diverse visitors through open and interactive communication.
  • Provide visitors with information regarding Museum exhibits, programs, and resources.
  • Facilitate fun and educational activities.
  • Support programs and special events, for example: Halloweek, Star Wars Weekend, Japanese New Year, Boston Youth Dance Festival, and CreatedBy Festival.
  • Prepare the Museum for daily opening and closing procedures, including sanitizing of exhibit loose parts.
  • Facilitate a smooth, efficient, and welcoming entry to the Museum.
  • Process online ticketing and Museum’s reservations.
  • Accurately complete cash, credit card, passes, and discount transactions.
  • Capture demographic information and visitor data.
  • Promote membership sales and renewals, support development fundraising campaigns.
  • Manage Information Desk; answer phone, assist with visitor inquiries, make building announcements.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled staff meetings, trainings, group discussions, and activities.
  • Adhere to Museum policies and procedures, promote the Museum’s Mission and the Museum’s Equity Diversity and Inclusion initiatives.
  • Other duties as required.

 

Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Previous experience with young children and families
  • Previous work experience in retail, sales, or customer service
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and visitors
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse audience
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
  • Availability during weekend, holidays, and school vacation week are required
  • Fluency in a second language, a plus
