A Trike Called Funk Presents: The Big Beat Drumming Series

Join us outside on the plaza for an energetic 4-part drumming series where you can experience global rhythms through hands-on music making! Taking place July 19, July 27, August 3, and August 10, each session features a DJ spinning music, dancing, live percussion and a drumming workshop with local guest artists.

Our fourth and final installment features drummers and dancers from Lakaï Dance Theatre, a Boston-based company founded by multidisciplinary artist McKersin. Named after the Haitian Kreyol word for “home,” Lakaï roots its work in stories of community and belonging, using dance as a tool for healing and transformation. Drawing on rhythms from across the Afro-diaspora—including Hip-Hop, House, Folkloric Haitian, and West African dance—each style is chosen with intention, carrying its own story and history.

Each session includes a funky dance warm-up led by A Trike Called Funk, followed by a featured artist-led workshop with time to freestyle and express your best moves!
