Fusuma and Shoji doors in the Japanese House are getting repaired by guest artisans from Japan!
Please visit the 3rd floor bridge by the Japanese House exhibit to meet Nakajima-san and Maruyama-san from Seikodo Nakajima of Kyoto and learn about Fusuma and Shoji doors from July 30-August 5.
Due to this project, the Japanese House is closed to the public from July 29-August 6.
About the visiting artisans from Kyoto
Guest artisans Nakajima-san and Maruyama-san are specialists in Hyogushi artisanship – traditional Japanese craft masters of paper-related art and architecture. Nakajima-san and Maruyama-san have the National Certificate (government-issued) Level 1 and are highly skilled and experienced. We are grateful to have their support for our Japanese House exhibit this summer!
During the Fusuma & Shoji maintenance project, the Japanese House exhibit will be closed to visitors. However, visitors are invited to observe their work, ask questions, and learn about the history of Fusuma and Shoji doors. This is a very special opportunity, and please join us in welcoming Nakajima-san and Maruyama-san, who are coming all the way from Kyoto, which is Boston’s Sister City!
